Motion perception Flashcards
1
Q
Purpose of motion perception
A
- break camouflage
- attract attention
- segregate objects from the background
- interpret events: see how objects interact
- determine structure of objects
- determine actions people are performing
2
Q
Akinetopsia
A
motion blindness: cannot see thing moving but knows it has
3
Q
Explain illusory motion and the two types
A
- Fake motion where no movement is occurring
a. static: can be created by contrasting colours
b. apparent motion: occurs when a series of stationary images are presented in succession and sufficiently close together. far apart = fast alteration rate = decrease in motion perception
4
Q
Motion after effect
A
caused by habituation (e.g waterfall)
5
Q
induced motion
A
nearby object (usually a large one) either affects the
perceived motion of a second object (usually a small one) or causes a second object to appear to move.
6
Q
*Motion induced blindness
A
7
Q
Motion illusion
A
- Footstep illusion: can
- Aperture problem: movement is ambiguous if ends of
8
Q
Motion induced change blindness
A
Motion can make it difficult to notice changes
