Motion And Energy Flashcards
What is Newton’s first law?
An object at rest will that remain that way until acted on by a force
An object that is moving will continue to the same until acted on by a force
What is inertia?
The tendency to resist change, e.g. When you are standing on a bus and it speed up or breaks and you fall
Why are safety features in cars important?
Seat belts and airbags stop you from being thrown forward in a crash or if it suddenly stops
What is Newtons Second Law?
Force = mass x acceleration
What is an example of good old Newty’s second law
If you are pulling a car you will need to use more force than if you are pulling a truck or if you want to pull it at a faster rate
What is the Third Law of Newty?
Every action has its equal opposite reaction
What are some common action-reaction pair
A nail hit by a hammer exerts and equal force back
A bat hits a ball and the ball is propelled forward
What is are the formulas for speed and acceleration
Speed = distance/time Acceleration = velocity/time
