Electricity Flashcards
What is voltage?
The amount of energy that passes through a component
What is current?
The flow of electrons through the circuit
What is resistance?
How the device reduces the current through it
What is ohm’s law?
Voltage = current x resistance
What is a series circuit?
Globes arranged in a loop so the voltage splits but current stays the same
What is a parallel circuit?
Globes arranged in lines so the voltage stays the same and the current splits
Series vs parallel circuits
Series circuits are easier to construct but parallel circuits can be controlled differently and the voltage stays the same
How do electromagnets work?
A magnetic field is produced when a charged wire is twisted
How do motors work?
A current-carrying cool is placed in a magnet field and it spins
How do generators work?
When a coil moves in a magnetic field is creates electricity
What are different types of energy resources?
Solar, wind, hydroelectric, nuclear, geothermal, biomass and fossil fuels
What is a circuit?
The path an electrical charge takes which contains an energy source, path and load
