what is UV varnishing
where a varnish is applied to the surface of the paper, then cured under a UV light, making it feel dry to the touch
advantages of UV varnishing
- good finish for items that are going to be handled frequently as it protects the paper
- varnish cures very quickly when exposed to UV lights and this speeds up the printing process and reduces production times
why are woods like beech and oak and maple used in wooden toys
- theyre hard
- theyre durable so can withstand a lot of force, making it safe for children as they wont break and splinter
- these woods can be painted in bright colours or have an attractive appearance
why are composites used for flat pack furniture
- MDF is regularly used as it is strong so can withstand forces that are applied onto the furniture
- MDF has a uniform and it can be shaped. ideal for flat pack furniture which needs to be cut to shape, drilled in specific locations etc
- MDF can have finishes applied to it, resulting to attractive furniture
