Carbamazepine
This mood stabilizer may cause birth defects, so it is used with caution in pregnant patients, or patients who can become pregnant

Folic acid should be taken with carbamazepine in this patient population
Pregnant patients
These two medications are narrow therapeutic index medications (NTI)
Lithium and carbamazepine
Most mood stabilizers and antipsychotics are used with caution with these patients
Older patients
Many meds are on the Beers list
Clozapine
Clozaril; atypical 2nd gen antipsychotic
Bipolar, schizophrenia
This antipsychotic is a REMS med
Clozapine
These two meds are NIOSH meds (mood stabilizer and antipsychotic)
Ziprasidone - Geodon - atypical antipsychotic
Divalproex (Depakote) - mood stabilizer
Lurasidone
Latuda; atypical 2nd gen antipsychotic
Schizophrenia, bipolar
This antipsychotic must be taken with food with at least 350 calories for absorption
Lurasidone
Food increases the absorption of these two antipsychotics
