Monitoring Anesthesia Flashcards
1
Q
Monitoring RR w/ Anesthesia
A
- May decrease to 10-16 bpm
- Normal = 20-30 bpm
2
Q
Monitoring HR w/ Anesthesia
A
- Dog = 70-110 bpm
- Cat = 90-140 bpm
- Decreases by 10% during anesthesia
- Increases during induction due to epinephrine release
3
Q
Anesthetic Depth
Stage 4
A
- Terminal
- Cardiac muscle and brain tissue in danger of failing
- CPR measures
4
Q
Stage III
Plane 4
A
- Overdose plane
- Shallow / irregular breathing
- Pupil dilated; no response to light
- Reflexes absent
5
Q
Stage III
Plane 3
A
- Deep - only used in manipulative surgery
- Shallow, irregular breaths = 8 bpm
- CRT >2 secs
- Eye fixed, 3rd eyelid not as prolapsed
6
Q
Stage III
Plane 2
A
- Medium, normal surgical plane
- Increased RR
- Decreased HR and BP
- Reflexes mostly absent
- Rotated eyes slightly medial, 3rd eyelid still prolasped
7
Q
Stage III
Plane 1
A
- Light plane
- Rotated eyes medially, 3rd eyelid prolapsed
- All reflexes present - may not be able to intubate
8
Q
Anesthetic Depth
Stage III
A
- Sleep / surgical stage
- Divided into 4 planes
9
Q
Anesthetic Depth
Stage II
A
- Delirium or struggling may occur
- Excess epinephrine levels may exist
- Centobarbital can produce violent effects
10
Q
Anesthetic Depth
Stage I
A
- Exaggerated response to all stimuli
- CNS excitement
