Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (Hydatidiform Mole)
A
Trophoblasts develop abnormally and the blastocyst dies. Chorionic villi swell and form grapelike clusters of tissues that grow rapidly and fill the uterus.

Signs and Symptoms of Gestational Trophoblastic Disease
A
- Positive pregancy test
- hcg levels higher than expected for gestation
- Uterus larger than gestational age
- Vaginal bleeding - from dark brown spotting to hemorrhage
- Excessive nausea and vomiting (hyperemesis gravidarum)

Therapeutic Management of Gestational Trophoblastic Disease
A
- Confirm pregnancy
- Ultrasound snowstorm pattern and no fetus
- Elevated hCG levels
- Monitor bleeding
- Treat symptoms of HEG or pre-eclampsia
- Evacuate trophoblastic tissue
- Screen for metastatic disease
- Follow up: serial hCG levels for one year, pregnancy preventation for one year, screen for malignancy
