Testosterone
common type of androgen, promotes sperm productiona nd male secondary sexual charac; promotes sexual motivation and behavior, by being converted to estradiol
Estradiol
Common type of estrogen, uterine and other female tissue dev; regulates sexual motivation and performance in females and males
Progesteron
common type of Progestin
Cortisol
common type of gluccocorticoid, increase carb metabolism, mediates stress repomnses
Oxytocin
stimulates milk letdown and uterine contractions during birth; promotes social bonding
Prolactin
reproduction, water balance, behavior associated with parental care
Thyroxine
increases oxidation rates in tissue and affects neural dev
Vasopressin
Increases water reabsorption in the kidney and affects learning and memory
Central Nervous System (CNS)
=Brain and spinal cord
Brain stem
most basic structure of brain and is located at top of spine and bottom of brain
- in charge of basic life support functions
Limbic System
collection of highly specialized neural structures that sit at the top of the brain stem, like regulating our emotions
Cerebellum
coordinates actions without need for conscious awareness
Cerebrum
most advanced portion
- processes with more awareness and voluntary control (speaking, planning)
