Puberty

Identity Status 1: Foreclosure
occurs when an indiv. Commits to an identity without exploring options
Identity Status 2: Identity Diffusion
occurs when adolescent neither explore nor commit to any identities
Identity Status 3:
Moratorium
adolescents are actively exploring options but have not yet made commitments
Identity Status 4:
Identity Achievement
occurs when indiv. have explored different options and then made identity commitment
Emerging Adulthood
from 18 - 25 yrs
1) Age of Identity Explorations
2) Age Instability
3) Self- Focused Age
4) Age of Feeling in-between
5) Age of Possibilities
EA in OECD countries
Europe- EA is longest and leisurely
- Individualism: Provide tertiary education (college), assist young people in finding jobs, provide generous unemployment benefits, housing support
Asian
- Collectivism: family and community obligations
- Narrow boundaries but still pursue EA
EA in Non-Industrialized Countries
- Only a minority getting EA
- Rates in enrollment in tertiary education is much lower
- Exists only for the wealthier segment of society
