MODULE 6 - Building Finishes and Materials Flashcards
The FF&E Researching requirement process can include: (5)
- Making an initial selection (may change but select something that meets needs first)
- Consider whether an item conforms to Industry Standards (e.g. BIFMA)
- Conform to codes and regulations
- conforms to any sustainability standards
- Sample/mockups are required to be provided
What are some information sources an ID can use for FF&E?
- Library at firm
- Trade magazines
- Trade fairs
- Manufacturers, dealers and sales reps
- Internet Research
- Trade associations
- Databases
What are the cigarette ignition tests of furniture components and composites?
CAL TB 116 / VFPA 261 (Determines resistance of mockup upholstered furniture material assemblies to ignition by cigarettes)
CAL TB 117 / NFPA 260 (Cigarette Ignition Resistance of Components of Upholstered Furniture)
What type of cushion presents a particularly high fire hazard?`
Untreated Cellular plastic
While ___ cushions give better support and are more appropriate in many situations, ____ under cushioning permits fabric to give and resist the grinding action of regular use
firm, soft
What is Colorfastness
the resistance of a finish to change or loss of color when exposed to light, most commonly the sun’s ultraviolet light.
What is Abrasion Resistance?
a material’s ability or finish to resist being worn away or to maintain its original appearance when rubbed with another object.
____ is a natural material and overall one of the best for carpet. Its durable, resilient, wears well, flame resistance, relatively easy to clean
wool
In most cases, the most durable upholstery is achieved by using strong, smooth fibers like ____ or ____
nylon or wool
What is crocking resistance?
a materials resistance to the transfer of color from a wallcovering surface when rubbed
What four components is paint composed of?
- binder
- pigments
- liquid
- additives
Vinyl wallcovering typically comes in rolls of __ or __ wide and ___ long
52” or 54”
30 yards
What would you add to vinyl wallcovering to add stain resistance?
polyvinyl fluoride film
What are the 3 grades of vinyl wall covering?
Type I: light duty
Type II: medium duty
Type III: heavy duty
How to calculate wallpaper. needs using the square footage method
- Calculate the perimeter of the room in feet
- Multiply the perimeter by the height of the walls to be covered to get the total amount of area required in square feet
- add 20% to step 2 for waste
- calculate area of doors, windows, and other things that won’t be covered. 15 sf for one door or two windows
- subtract #4 from #3 to get total area of wallpaper needed
- divide area per roll (single roll is 36 sf and double roll is 72 sf)
