2
Q

what are gliding movements

A

vertebrae, carpals
gliding between carpals
happens at plane joints

3
Q

what is an angular movement

A

when one part of linear structure is bent relative to another part of the structure creating an angle

4
Q

give the 2 ways to describe flexion and extension

A

flexion
- to bend or decrease the angle
- movement in the anterior direction

extension
- to straighten or increase the angle
- movement in the posterior direction

6
Q

what are the exceptions to the anterior/posterior definition of extension and flexion?

A

knee and lateral flexion
knee bent = flexion, standing = extension.
ear towards hip laterally = lateral flexion

Q

give the 2 angular movements that have to do with feet

A

plantar flexion - movement toward the plantar surface of the foot
Dorsiflexion - movement away from the plantar surface of the foot.

btw plantar = bottom of foot.

Q

Name the 2 movements that are relative to the midline of the body or body part

A

abduction and adduction
abduction - movement away from the midline
adduction - movement towards midline

Q

differentiate supination and pronation

A

supination - hand upwards like when u hold a soup
pronation - hand facing downwards cant hold soup

16
Q

what is elevation and depression and where can it happen

A

elevation - moves structure superiorly
depression - moves it inferiorly

happens at scapula and mandible
depression of mandible = opening of mouth

17
Q

what is protraction and retraction and where can it happen

A

protraction - anterior movement in transverse plane
retraction - posterior movement in transverse plane.

protraction of scapula is like putting yourself into a ball for sleep.

happens in mandible, clavical and scapula

18
Q

what is opposition and reposition and where can it happen

A

opposition - when the thumb and little finger are brought together
reposition - when they return to neutral

happens in fingers only

19
Q

what is inversion and eversion and where can it happen

A

inversion - turning the ankle - plantar surface faces medially
eversion - turning the ankle - plantar surface faces laterally
happens in intertarsal joints of foot and not the ankle since its a hinge joint.
