Lab 5 Flashcards
what is this a picture of?
electromyogram (EMG). it detects the electrical potential of the muscle
How would EMG data change if we are measuring signals of the arm and a weight is added? what is occurring within he muscle to maintain joint position?
Biceps Activity: Likely shows a marked increase in amplitude, as it acts as the primary mover or stabilizer depending on the joint position.
Triceps Activity: May also increase, even if minimally, to prevent hyperflexion and stabilize the joint.
in the EMG graph, when the bicep is contracting how did the triceps tracing change? what role does the triceps play during elbow flexion then?
During active biceps contraction, the triceps tracing decreases or remains minimal.
The triceps’ role is primarily stabilization, ensuring controlled and smooth movement of the elbow joint. However, it must relax adequately to allow for effective flexion.
what kind of sockets make a muscle more prone to injuries. give an example
shallow sockets. ex the shoulder
what muscles attach the scapula from the appendicular skeleton to the axial skeleton?
trapezius
levator scapulae
rhomboid major
serratus anterior
pectoralis minor
identify the serratus anterior, pectoralis major and minor
identify the trapezius, levator scapulae, teres minor, latissimus dorsi and rhomboid major
the rhomboids are deep
fill in the blanks
what are the arms that attach the arms to the thorax
deltoid, latissimus dorsi, teres major and the pectoralis major
what does the deltoid do
connects the humerus to the scapula
what does the rotator cuff do
keeps the upper arm bone within the shallow socket (glenoid cavity)
give the muscles of the rotator cuffs
infraspinatus, supraspinatus, subscapularis, teres minor,
