Why is forgetting not a bad thing?
We’re able to prioritize important memories and we are able to think abstractly and make connections because our brain is not devoted to compiling too much information

The removal of his hippocampus ended his seizures but ended his ability to form new memories
What is retrograde amnesia?
The inability to retrieve memory of the past
What is anterograde amnesia?
The inability to form new long-term memories
What is storage decay?
The decaying of information in your longterm memory because it’s never been used, recalled, or restored.
What is positive transfer?
Old information makes it easier for new information to be learned
What is proactive interference?
When past information interferes with learning new information
What helps with recall of memories?
Sleep
What is repression?
Burying our anxiety-provoking memories and hide them from our conscious awareness
What is the misinformation effect?
Incorporating misleading information into someone’s memory of an event
What is imagination inflation?
Picturing an event can make it seem like a memory
What is source amnesia?
Forgetting where an experience came from and attributing it to your own experience
What is deja vu?
The feeling that you’re in a situation that you’ve seen or been in before
