What is a cochlear implant?
An implant which allows deaf people who have suffered nerve damage in their ears to hear again.
How do you prevent hearing loss?
Avoid exposure to 85+ decibels.
What are the 4 components of touch?
Pressure, warmth, cold, and pain
What is pain good for?
Tells the body that something has gone wrong
What are nociceptors?
Sensory receptors that whose signals are interpreted by the brain as pain
What are endorphins?
Hormones that reduce pain perception
What are the 5 types of taste?
Sweet, umami, bitter, sour, salty
What is a sensory interaction?
Occurs when different senses influence each other
What is kinesthesis?
The sensing of individual body parts relative to each other
What is vestibular sense?
The ability to sense the position of the head and body relative to gravity
