Module 23 Flashcards
What is memory?
The persistance of learning over time, through storage, and retrieval of information and skills
What are the 3 steps in memory?
Encoding, Strorage, and retrieval
What is encoding?
The information getting into our brain
What is storage?
The information is held in a way that allows it to later be retrieved
What is retrieval?
Reacting and recalling the information, producing it in a form similar to what was encoded
What is stored in the sensory memory?
Stimuli which are recorded by our senses
What is stored in short term memory?
The stimuli stored in sensory memory is processed into short term and encoded through rehearsal.
What is stored in long term memory?
Information from short term memory
What 3 things go on in the working (short term) memory?
Auditory rehearsal, executive functions, and visiospatial “sketch pad”
What are declarative memories? Where does this happen?
Facts and experiences hat we can consciously know and recall. In our conscious mind
What are implicit memories? Where does this happen?
Memories that we are not fully aware of. In our unconscious mind
What is procedural memory?
Well- practiced knowledge
What is conditioned association?
Like a smell that triggers thoughts of a favorite place
What other things are processed directly to long term memory?
Space, time, and frequency
What is a sensory memory?
The immediate recording of sensory information before it is processed to short or long term memory.
