Module 2: Active Transport Flashcards
What is active transport
movement of molecules against their concentration gradient, it requires energy (ATP)
What are the 4 types of active transport
- Primary active transport
- Secondary active transport
- Endocytosis
- Exocytosis
What is primary active transport
ATP is used directly to transport substances against their concentration gradient, the pumps act as a carrier and enzyme
What is secondary active transport
movement against the concentration gradient powered by an electrochemical gradient that was previously created by primary active transport
What is endocytosis
molecules in the extracellular fluid are brought into the cell via the formation of an endosome
What is exocytosis
molecules are packaged into secretory vesicles inside the cell and then released into the extracellular fluid
