Module 10 Flashcards
Confound
An uncontrolled extraneous variable or flaw in an experiment.
Internal Validity
The extent to which the results of an experiment can be attributed to the manipulations of the independent variable rather than to some confounding variable.
Multiple-group Time-series Design
A design in which measures are taken on two or more groups both before and after a treatment.
Non-equivalent Control Group Posttest Only Design
A design in which at least two non-equivalent groups are given a treatment and then a posttest measure.
Non-equivalent Control Group Pretest-posttest design
A design in which at least two non-equivalent groups are given a pretest, then a treatment, and then a posttest measure.
Non-manipulated Independent Variable
A design in which participants are assigned to groups based on a preexisting variable rather than being randomly assigned to the groups.
Regression to the Mean
A threat to internal validity in which extreme schores, upon retesting, tend to be less extreme, moving toward the mean.
Single-group Posttest Only Design
A design in which a single group of participants is given a treatment and then tested.
Single-group Pretest-posttest Design
A design in which a single group of participants takes a pretest, then receives some treatment, and then takes a posttest measure.
Single-group Time-series Design
A design in which a single group of participants is measured repeatedly before and after a treatment.
