What does communication involve?
the reciprocal process in which messages are sent and received between two or more people.
What is the biggest influence of infants?
our care providers and home environment.
What is the biggest influence of adolescents?
our teachers, religion, peers and hobbies.
What are out biggest influences in adulthood?
peers, occupation, relationships, experiences, technology, music and politicians.
3 types of question styles
closed, open and probing questions.
What is a closed question?
simple yes/no answers.
What is an open question?
provide more of a detailed answer.
What is a probing question?
try and gain more information and clarifying questions.
Pros of the calvary Cambridge model?
systematic process, assists with information collection.
Cons of calvary Cambridge model?
rigid and less flexible to patients needs.
Pros of unstructured interview?
allows patient to lead and can create a more relaxed environment.
Way to communicate non verbally are?
posture, eye contact, tone of voice and gesture.
Cons of unstructured interview?
less professional and less focused on pertinent information.
What is active listening?
requires deliberate participation of the listener to the speaker.
Examples of communication barriers?
priorities, jargon, environment, disability, pain and education.
