Mitotic Cell Division Flashcards
What happens during prophase?
The chromosomes condense and become visible under a light microscope, the nuclear membrane breaks down and the Microtubules extend from the centrosome within the cytoskeleton to form a spindle within the cell.
What happens during metaphase?
The chromosomes organise theirselves at the centre of the cell, in a line, as the Microtubules attach themselves to the centromere of the chromosomes.
What happens during anaphase?
The spindle Microtubules which are bound to the centromeres of the chromosomes, begin to shorten . This quickly springing the chromosomes to each pole of the cell.
What happens during telophase?
Now the chromosomes are on opposite poles of the cell two bands form on the top of the cell. Two nuclear membranes then form around the chromosomes, separating he chromosomes into two separate nuclear membranes.
What is he M phase?
Basically metaphase to telophase.
What is the first phase of cell division? And what are the G-phases of it?
And what happens during it?
Interphase which is made up of G1 phase, S phase and G2 phase. The cell grows in size during G1 phase, replicates chromosomes during S phase, then prepares for division in G2 phase.
