Cytoskeleton Flashcards
Where are microfilaments found?
In the cell cortex (found under the cell membrane surface) and in bundles in microvilli (absorptive cells in the intestine).
What are Microtubules made of?
Tubulin.
Where are Microtubules found?
They extend from the centrosome.
What is the purpose of Microtubules?
They have an important role in the structure of the cell and in the movement of organelles.
What is the purpose of capping proteins?
To stabilise Microtubules which have not reached the cell cortex or bound to organelles.
Why is the position of capping cell important?
The position of the capping proteins determines the shape of the cell as Microtubules bind to capping proteins.
What are micro filaments made of?
Actin. Sometimes they’re called actin filaments.
