Misc operations Flashcards
Aircraft operating VFR over water more than 30 minutes flying time from nearest shore must have
Approved radio communication equipment capable of maintaining continuous two way contact with an appropriate ATS unit or other aeronautical facility.
Navigation equipment which is capable of being used to navigate the aircraft in accordance with the flight plan.
An aircraft operated over water must be equiped with
When more than gliding/autorotation distance from shore, one life jacket for each person on board in single engine aircraft, or multi engine aircraft that cannot maintain a height of 1000 AMSL if one engine fails.
One life jacket for each person on board multi engine flights of more than 50nm from shore.
Single engine flights operated 100nm form shore, or multi engine flights operated 200nm from shore must carry…
Sufficient life rafts with buoyancy and rated capacity to accomodate occupants of aircraft.
Survivor locator light on each life raft.
Survival kit, appropriately equiped for route, attached to each aircraft.
At least one pyrotechnic signally device per raft.
One ELT or EPIRB.
Additional ELT or EPIRB for multi engine aircraft in excess of 5700kg.
For flights on water (float planes)
Readily accessible life jacket for each occupant, and sea anchor for aircraft excess of 5700kg.
Air operations (CTO and ATO) must not be operated exceeding 10nm from gliding distance or autorotation distance from shore unless…
Life rafts are carried that are sufficient to carry all occupants of the aircraft.
A life preserver (e.g. life jacket) is worn by each passenger.
Flight beyond 100nm from shore may be conducted under IFR.
ATO single engine helicopter 10nm from autorotation distance
In addition to normal inside located emergency equipment, must be equiped with operable flotation device, or occupants must wear immersion suits as well as life jackets.
CTO multiengine
Rules equally apply to multi engine aircraft with only exception being that life preservers do not need to be worn but they must be in a position accessible to each passenger.
Helicopters may conduct CTO over congested areas within 1000ft and 600m radius provided that…
A plan for the operation has been prepared containing…
A chart depicting the flight areas involved and the heights to be flow. Procedures to ensure that the operations pose no hazard to persons or property. Details of any coordination with air traffic service, if necessary. A copy of the written notification to the appropriate local authority and a copy of the requirements of the authority that must be complied with.
All personal involved in operation are briefed on the plan.
The plan is retained for a period of at least 12 months.
Parachute operations
PIC of aircraft involved in parachute operations must ensure that:
Aircraft has standard category airworthiness certificate.
Configuration of aircraft is appropriate for operation.
The cabin has sufficient room and satisfactory egress for parachutists carried and no handles/fittings which could cause unintended parachute release.
Aircraft flight manual authorises flight with door open/removed.
POB not involved in chuting operation occupy seats, are restrained by seat or safety harnesses, wear and know how to use an approved parachute and have been briefed on emergency procedures.
Parachutist have briefed pilot in command on their intended decent.
Each parachutist is authorised by the holder of an aviation recreation organisation certificate or approved by the director.
Glider towing
Airspeed of tow aircraft remains bellow maximum speed specified for the aero tow in glider flight manual.
Towing load does not exceed maximum load specified in tow aircraft flight manual.
Tow hook and tow lines meet approved standards and that the hook is checked for operation prior to flight.
Take off, glider release and emergency signals are in conformity with approved procedures.
Take off distance over 50ft obstacle does not exceed 85% of runway and aircraft can maintain rate of climb of at least 200ft/min above 1000 ft
Can passengers be carried during towing of other than gliders
No
Aviation event director approval not required if
Not more than 500 people attending.
Not more than 3 aircraft participating.
If more than 500 attendees, or there are more than 3 aircraft participating, then pilots may only participate if organiser is the holder of an aviation event authorisation issued by director.
Pilot of aircraft taking part in aviation event must…
Operate at a height of at least 100ft agl whilst flying except in the case of an agricultural or helicopter display.
Fly sufficient distance from spectators, not between display line and spectators, and not initiating a manoeuvre in the direction of spectator area.
Not carry passengers.
Aerobatic flight
Flight manual must allow aerobatics to be performed.
Pilot may conduct aerobatics without rating provided remains above 3000ft and no passengers. To carry passengers, pilot must have rating and remain above 3000ft. Aerobatics may be performed bellow 3000ft, above 1500ft, provided no passengers carried and pilot holds rating.
Aerobatics bellow 1500ft allowed provided
Pilot has rating that authorises aerobatics bellow 1500ft down to specified lower height.
No passengers.
Aerobatics are performed at an aviation event.
Pilot does not go bellow authorised lower limit.
