2 types of CAR
Ordinary rules - which are evolved through sometimes lengthy consultative process.
Emergency rules - which may be produced by the authority (or director) in cases where urgent action is required.
Advisory circulars
Issued by CAA. They contain information about standards, practises, and procedures promulgated in CA rules. Many CARs have AC that further details requirements of CAR part.
AIP Vol 1
Contains General Information (GEN), En-route information (ENR) and aerodrome information (AD). Basically a planning document.
AIP Vol 2 and 3
Contains specific GEN, ENR, and AD information, procedures and charts specific to IFR flights. These volumes contain detailed information concerning IFR flights and include all aerodrome instrument approach charts and related data.
AIP Vol 4
Contains specific GEN, ENR, and AD information, procedures, and charts specific to VFR flights. Contains all aerodrome charts and operational data for VFR operations.
AIP supplements
Reffered to as SUP. Contains amendments and/or additions to AIRNZ documents, and information/procedures of temporary nature that is too extensive for NOTAM.
NOTAM identifiers N R C
New, Replacement, Cancelled.
Aeronautical information Circulars
Made available through airways NZ. Notices containing information that does not qualify for the origination of a NOTAM or inclusion in AIP, but relates to flight safety, air navigation or technical, administrative, or legislative matters.
Charts
IFR en route charts, VFR visual planning and visual navigation charts. Part of AIPNZ
IFIS
Internet Flight Information Service
Contains NOTAMS, also accessible is info about publications, airspace, twilight tables. SIGMET and ATIS. Submit and terminate flight plans.
Units of measurement
Bearing = degrees.
Navigation distances = naughtical miles.
Elevations, altitudes, heights = feet.
Speed, wind speed = knots.
Vertical speed = feet/min
Dimensions = meters.
Disability = meters/kilometers.
Temperature = degrees celsius.
Time system
Coordinated universal time UTC is used for all flights within NZ. NZST is 12 hours ahead. NZDT is 13 hours ahead.
CAR Part 91
General operating and flight rules.
Hire or Reward
Remuneration in terms of money, goods, credit, or any other form for services rendered. Requires CPL or ATPL. Operator requires certificate issued under CAR Part 119.
Airline operator certificate
For operators who carry passengers or freight from one place to another in any type of aeroplane.
