Large-Scale Mil ops shd be undertaken only when:
a. Only when based on sound intelligence.
b. When success’ll provide worthwhile & lasting results.
c. When it is desired to seize & hold hostile controlled areas.
Stg of the force’ll depend upon:
a. Aim of operation.
b. Size and layout of the village.
c. Information of the hostiles with reference to their stg & wpns carried.
Factors affecting Operation:
a. Surprise.
b. Appch March.
c. Hostiles
Factors influencing Adm:
a. Aim Extended dist bw units.
b. Diversity of opn tasks
c. Vulnerability of adm installations & road comm.
d. Requirements to support pop adm.
Special Considerations shd be given in:
a. Sy
b. Siting of Adm Installations
c. Decentralization
d. Amn
e. Supplies
f. Tpt
g. Medical
Amn special consideration:
a. Stocking of amn in coy & pl sy posts’ll be necessary.
b. Strict supervision must be exercised in issue, expenditure & safe custody of amn. Cases of pilferage of amn are likely.
c. Amn stocks are very attractive targets for the insurgents.
Supplies special consideration:
a. As far as possible fresh rations shd be provided. However, this is seldom
possible & tps have often to live on tinned substitutes.
b. Local purchase of fresh rations shd be resorted to. Payment must be
made promptly & a simple accounting procedure must be followed.
c. On occasions, the locals may have to be given ration. This’ll require special provisioning & permission.
Tpt Special Considerations:
a. Air supply’ll be most imp means of maintenance of tps operating in areas away fm roads.
b. In addition, animal tpt & porters may have to be used. In certain situations, local civilians may have to be employed as porters. Prompt payment must, however, be made.
Medical special consideration:
a. Far greater reliance on first aid. Special training in first aid to several
personnel in each coy’ll be necessary.
b. Max use of helicopter evacuation.
c. Use of locals, as stretcher bearers.
d. Very strict enforcement of sanitary & health precautions.
