a person who moves away form their place of usual residence, whether within a country or across an international border, temporarily or permanently for a variety of reasons, eg war
define immigration
in-migration of people into a country which involves a permanent change of residence eg, USA from Mexico
emigration
out-migration of people into a country which involves a permanent change of residence eg, People leaving Mexico for the USA
define net migration
difference between the number of people moving permanently in and out of an area or a country
define an economic migrant
a person who moves from another country, region or place, involving a permanent or semi-permanent change of residence, to improve their standard of living or job opportunities eg. Mexico to the US
define migrant remittances
money transferred from one country to another, sent home by migrants to their family, friends and community eg workers in the UK sending money to India

a person who has moved outside of the country of their nationality or usual domicile because of a genuine fear of persecution or death

what is the Schengen Agreement?
agreement that allows freedom of movement within most of the EU across international borders, causes EU expansion

what does Friedmanns core periphery model show?
describes how economic, political and cultural authority is spread out in core and periphery regions, causing migration from the periphery to the core
