mechanism of action
positive allosteric modulator for GABA a receptors- binds to benzo receptor side on chloride channels and potentiates binding and effects of GABA- increased intracellular CL- concentration leading to hyperpolarizing of the cell

2-5mg (0.5mg/kg) slow IV IO IM
dose adult post medication
2.5 mg q 5-10 min slow IV, IO
adult seizure
2-6 mg IV, 10 mg IM 0.2mg/kg IN max of 10 mg
pedi dose
0.2mg/kg slow IV IO, max dose 10 mg
precautions
may cause CNS and respiratory depression
caution with acute alcohol intoxication
drug on drug interactions
additive effects with CNS depressants and alcohol
