positive allosteric modulator for GABA a receptors- binds to benzo receptor side on CL- channels and potentiates binding and effects of GABA- increases intracellular CL- concentration leading to hyperpolarization of cell

dose adult seizure
4 mg IV IO
pre medication/anxiety/withdrawal
0.5 2mg (0.1mg/kg) slow IV IO
1-4 mg IM
post intubation adult
2-4 mg slow IV IO q 5-10 min

0.05mg/kg slow IV IO
precautions
may causes CNS and respiratory depression
caution with acute alcohol intoxication
drug on drug interactions
additive effects with CNS depressants and alcohol
