Microbial Growth Flashcards
1
Q
What happens in binary fission?
A
1.The cell DNA is replicated
2.The DNA is then divided and atransverse septum will form by the cell memebrane and wall
3.The cell will split into 2 daughter cells
2
Q
What happens in the growth phase?
A
- Bacteria is put on a petri dish to see growth
- The lag phase is the beginning
- The log phase is where the cells are at optimum growth
- Stationary phase is no increase due to accumalation of waste products
- Death phase decrease continued by accumalation of waste products
3
Q
What are the factors effecting bacteria growth?
A
- Temp- Bacteria works in different temps
- PH- bacteria work in different PH wrong one can cause death
- H20 & osmotic pressure- Bacteria grows best in saturated area of water and if there a increase in pressure will cause the cell to burst
- Oxygen- Bacteria can be anerobic or aerobic or inbetween so bacteria can work in different conditions
4
Q
How is the growth of bacteria determined?
A
By the increase in cell number not size increase
5
Q
How does bacteria reproduce?
A
Binary fission
