Infectious agents and diseases Flashcards
What are pathogenic and virulence ?
Pathogenic-is a infectous agent that causes diseases
Virulence- how terrible the disease is (How fast it transmits)
What is a piron?
- Prion is a protein, which does is not a cell or alive
- The infectious proteins effect the neurons and disturb the folding
- This mis-folding can lead to neurlogical symtopms
- The infectious proteins are transmitted through blood and organ transfussion
- Less than 20 nm
What disease does piron cause
- Transmissible spongy form encephapatheyl (TSE and CJD) creutzfeldt jakobs disease
What is a virus
- 2-400nm is a cell or active
- Needs to be in a host (Animal or human) to work
- Known as intracellular obligate parasite
- Categoriesed by the genome and the capsids
What diseases does virus cause?
1.Respiratory- cold and flu
2.Skin- HPV
3.CNS- Pollio
What is a bacteria?
1.It is a prokarytoic , cell that is active
2.0.2-15 micrometres
3.Has a cell wall for prevnt leaking (peptidoglycin) there is a thick one which is gram + and the thin is gram -
4.The bacteria can be aerobic or anaerobic
5.The bacteria can also be intracellular or intracellular
What diseases does bacteria cause?
1.chymadia
2.pneumonia
What is fungi and what diseases can it cause?
- 2-200micrometres, its a cell , alive and eukaryotic
- Has a cell wall made by chitin
- Can be replicated sexually or asexually e.g Spores
- Disease such as thrush and ringworm
What is a protozoa and what diseases does it cause?
1.1-50 micrometres, unicellular and eukaryotic
2.Disease- malaria
What is helmith and what disease does it cause?
- 3mm-10m, eukaryotic and multicellular
- Disease types- flease, mites and bed bugs
