1-2 METs
sitting, self-feeding, reading, active or active-assistive exercise of extremities in supine, standing, walking a 1 mph
2-3 METs
keyboarding, level walking at 2 mph, level bicycling at 5mph, light wood working, playing an instrument, active exercises standing or light mat activities with light resistance
3-4 METs
cleaning windows, walking at 3 mph, cycling at 6 mph, archery, golf (pulling a golf bag on a cart), fishing, slow stair climbing, balance and mat activities with mild resistance
4-5 METs
house painting, walking at 3.5 mph, cycling 8 mph, raking leaves, dancing (light), resistance exercises sitting (10-15 lb max)
5-6 METs
shoveling light soil, walking 4 mph, horseback riding, ice skating, stairs or step aerobics, ADLs require 5 METs
6-7 METs
shoveling up to 10 lbs, cycling 11 mph, snow shoveling, light downhill skiing
7-10+ METs
jogging to rapid running, basketball, heavy shoveling, vigorous skiing, rapid cycling up and down hills
