10mg in 2mL polyamp
ACTIONS OF METOCLOPRAMIDE
Accelerates gastric emptying and peristalsis
Dopamine receptor antagonist
PRIMARY EMERGENCY INDICATION OF METOCLOPRAMIDE
List all 9
- Nausea/Vomiting associated with
- Chest pain / discomfort of a cardiac nature
- Opioid administration for pain
- Cytotoxic or radiotherapy
- Previously diagnosed migraine
- Severe gastroenteritis - Prophylaxis
- Awake spinal immobilised Pts
- Eye trauma
CONTRAINDICATIONS OF METOCLOPRAMIDE
- Gastrointestinal haemorrhage
- Children
- Suspected bowel obstruction or perforation
PRECAUTIONS OF METOCLOPRAMIDE
List all 3
- Adolescents (<20yrs)
- Administer slowly over 1 min to minimise risk of extrapyramidal reactions
- Undiagnosed abdominal pain

IM
SIDE EFFECTS OF METOCLOPRAMIDE
Drowsiness
Lethargy
Dry mouth
Muscle tremor
Extrapyramidal reactions ( usually the dystonic type - muscle tremors)
( Extrapyramidal = various movement, dyskinesias, slurred speech (caused by dopamine blockade a.k.a dopamine antagonist))

Onset: 1 - 3 min
Peak: n/a
Druation: 10 - 30 min
IM
Onset: 10 - 15 min
Peak: n/a
Duration: 1 - 2 hr
METOCLOPRAMIDE DOSE
N&V
10mg IV/IM -repeat @ 10/60 if symptoms persist (Max 20mg)
