Methodological Issues Bandura Flashcards
Data
Both types
Quantitative - significance of the difference between experimental and control groups
Qualitative - quotes of things the children did. ‘No way for a lady to behave’
Ethics
Teacher gave consent, parents probs agreed
They couldn’t withdraw
Harmed the children as behaviour was changed
However, research was valuable as shows how children can learn to be aggressive so benefits outweigh harm
Internal validity
Controlled EV’s , toys in same place, model acted the same
Matched pairs design meant no ppt variables
Standardised showed it was learnt as they copied what the model did
Reliability
Very replicable as shown by the fact it was repeated with so many children
Sample not large enough to establish reliable effects, only 6 children in each condition
Sample
Doesn’t tell us anything about adults
Doesn’t represent all children
Ethnocentrism
In America so research is ethnocentric
Could’ve been culture which made the children aggressive
Research method
Lab experiment
Controlled EVs - toys in same order for everyone shows it wasn’t confounded by children playing with first toy they saw
Matched pairs design - increased validity through controlling ppt variables
