Casey Methodological Issues Flashcards
Research method
Controlled conditions
Results were accurate
Detailed and objective observations of brain which enabled researchers to make conclusions
Longitudinal - See that it was characteristic over someone’s life however attrition occurred
Data
Quantitative - easy to summarise and compare between conditions
Graphs were used to show difference
Easy to repeat to see comparisons
Ethical guidelines
Was ethical as ppts consented, no deception was used, they weren’t harmed or under stress. So,et ppts didn’t take part in exp 2 showing they had the right to withdraw
Internal validity
High as controlled EV’s etc
Ecological validity
The go no go tasks wouldn’t occur in everyday lives
Being scanned in MRI isn’t everyday occurance
The strangeness of the test could’ve impacted their performance
Findings don’t tell us how people would act in normal situations
Reliability
Longitudinal studies - hard to repeat as time consuming and not cost efficient
Can’t establish reliability
Sample
Subject attrition occurred so not as generalisable as original sample. Only 4 females. Brains of ppl as children may be different to the ones in exp 2
Ethnocentric
It isn’t as it told us about our brains which is human specific behaviour. However, it only conducted in America which means there may be diff amounts of low and high delayers in other cultures
What exp was it
