Psychiatric Disorders
These are medical conditions that affect a person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. They include conditions like depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia
Anxiety
A feeling or worry, nervousness, or unease, often about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome
Depression
A mood disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities
Bipolar Disorder
A mental disorder marked by extreme shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels, typically involving episodes of mania and depression
Schizophrenia
A chronic and severe mental disorder characterized by distorted thinking, hallucinations, and reduced ability to function in daily life.
Psychotherapy
A form of talk therapy where a trained therapist helps individuals explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to address mental health issues
Pharmacotherapy
The use of medications, such as antidepressants or antipsychotics, to manage symptoms of mental health disorders
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
A specific type of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative though patterns and behaviors
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
A medical treatment that involves passing a small electric current through the brain to trigger a controlled seizure, often used for severe depression
DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)
The DSM-5 is a widely used manual that provides criteria for the classification and diagnosis of various mental health disorders
ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition)
The ICD-10 includes codes for mental and behavioral disorders, which are used for billing and epidemiological purposes
Prevalence
The proportion or a population affected by a specific mental health disorder at a given time
Incidence
The rate at which new cases of mental health disorder occur in a population over a specific period
