Opening Statement
I’ve been feeling a bit down.

- Feel a bit low, most days
- Gradual over the last few months, but noticeable in the last couple of weeks
- Still enjoy eg company of friends but it doesn’t last
- Irritable
- Road rage incident
When and why did you move to area?
- Six months ago
- With partner

- Met partner on holiday a year ago
- Now stepparent to two children (12 & 14)
How has life changed? (6)
- Used to run my own business and live on my own
- Not working
- Bored and lonely in the house
- By myself all day
- Miss London friends and life
- Miss work
How interested are you in everyday things? (2)
- Lost motivation and interest in everyday things
- Everything feels like an effort
Are you depressed? (3)
- Not sure
- Not sad or tearful
- Just can’t be bothered, and that’s new for me
Sleep? (4)
- Not sleeping well
- Takes ages to get to sleep
- Trying to stay up late as possible watching TV until I’m tired but not helping
- Taken to sleeping in the afternoon before the kids get home from school

- Having difficulty concentrating
- Enjoy reading crime thrillers but noticed my attention keeps drifting
Thoughts of self-harm? (2)
- No thoughts of self harm or ending my life
- Do sometimes wonder what the point is, but would never do anything to harm myself or anyone else.
Physical activity?
- Used to go to gym in London but now living a sedentary life
Every day chores? (2)
- Cooking, cleaning and organising for the kids
- Feels like a waste of time - I used to have a life!

- Couple of glasses a night with dinner
- Much more than I used to drink
- Not good for waistline

- Never smoked
Parents? (2)
- Alive and well
- Pleased I’ve finally met someone and don’t understand why I’m bring so negative.
Road rage incident
Got out of car when someone wouldn’t back up and shouted at them. Really lost it. Very embarrassed.
Any ideas what the problem could be? (2)
- A friend suggested I might be depressed and should get antidepressants.
- Don’t know much about antidepressants though or if there are any other options.

- But still open and easy to talk to
- If you feel listened to and taken seriously respond positively and start to look/feel brighter in mood

- Aim is for the student to activate me by going through the wellbeing toolkit.
- Respond positively if they are being helpful. You’re keen to engage.
- Try what they offer and come up with your own suggestions.
- You just need someone to listen to you and acknowledge the challenges you’re going through.
