A
- Administrator for the police
- Quite variable and stressful
- Important role supporting public-facing officers
- Sometimes the content of what I see is upsetting

Son (3)
A
- Share custody with ex-partner
- Secondary school, doing exams, I’m worried about him
- Love seeing him but it’s stressful working around school hours when he’s with me

Mum (4)
A
- Dad passed away a few years ago
- No siblings
- Mum had a stroke recently and lost the use of her right arm and has difficulty with speech, but able to go back home from hospital
- Has carers 3x a day, but I try to pop in every day to see she’s eating ok

Previous medical history (3)
A
- Never been ill before
- No other medical problems
- Don’t smoke and don’t drink alcohol

Today’s Issue (4)
A
- Routine medical with Police and they discovered high blood sugar level
- Further blood test at GP revealed diabetes
- Waiting for a specialists review with a diabetes nurse
- Don’t really know what it means - maybe changing diet and exercising more?

Worries (2)
A
- Where to find the time or know-how to change diet and exercise more
- Secretly terrified of needles so don’t want insulin - don’t think I could inject myself every day

Daily diet (5)
A
- Cornflakes and milk for breakfast
- Biscuit and cup of tea (2 sugars) around 10.30
- Sandwich (ham or cheese), packet of crisps and an apple for lunch
- Cup of tea (2 sugars) mid-afternoon
- Dinner is healthy if son is around (fish, potato, veg etc), but unhealthy if son not around - cheese and biscuits / ready-meal / take-away

Sleep (2)
A
- Not sleeping well because of stress about work, son, mum and now diabetes
- Fear that diabetes will give me a stroke like mum

Lifestyle changes (2)
A
- If student can find some good hooks you will discuss lifestyle changes. Not sure how, but understand small steps are better than no steps.
- Worried though that these will be at the expense of time I give to other people

Aspirations (2)
A
- See this as an opportunity to start looking after myself
- Hopefully improve my diabetes through life changes alone

Diet changes (6)
A
- Enjoy fruit but don’t have much time to prepare it
- Packing a more healthy lunch
- More wholegrain snacks in supermarket with less refined sugar
- Avoid biscuit tin!
- Drink water instead of tea to avoid the sugar…
- Ask student for any other ideas for tasty snacks and lunches that could complement this…
