What is Reactive Attatchment Disorder?
begins before the age of 5
child cannot establish healthy attachments
What 3 components cause RAD?
persistant disregard for Childs emotional needs
persistant disregard for Childs physical needs
repeated change of primary caregiver
What are the two subtypes of RAD?
Inhibited
Disinhibited
Describe inhibited RAD?
child doesnt initiate and respond to social interactions in an appropriate way REPEATEDLY
child often resists caregiver and avoids eye contact
Describe disinhibited RAD?
child has a lack of selectiveness on who is their caregiver
How can RAD be easily reversed?
taken into a supportive environment
What can RAD lead to in later life?
poor self esteem poor problem solving personality disorders impulsivenesss agression
What are the signs of RAD?
persistant and medically unexplained colic poor eye contact no reciprocal smile delayed gross motor development appear stiff resists comfort poor sucking
What are the biological changes in children with RAD?
high levels of cortisol in the brain that leads to frontal lobe problems
What is conduct disorder?
repetitive and persistant pattern of behaviour in which basic rights of others or majorage appropriate rules are violated
What is the criteria to diagnose conduct disorder?
3 or more in the past 12mnths and 1 in the past 6: aggression to people or animals destruction of property deceitfulness or theft serious violation of the rules
What is mild conductive disorder?
limited to the environment
What is unsocialised conductive disorder?
predominantly violent behaviour - dealt with by the criminal justice system
What is socialised conductive disorder?
more covert antisocial acts, with a better ability to avoid getting caught by the criminal justice system
What is conductive disorder associated with?
ADHD
