acute inflammatory injury of the bronchioles due to the RSV virus

widespread fine crackles
lasts 5 days
What is the treatment for Bronchiolitis?
supportive treatment
CPAP
give smaller feeds or NG tube
What is Croup?
laryngotracheobronchitis usually caused by parainfluenzae
What can Croup lead to?
respiratory failure
How is croup treated?
steroids
What does stridor indicate?
inspiratory noise
upper chest problems
What does wheeze indicate?
expiratory noise
lower chest problems
At what age can children do peak flow?
5 and up
What is the presentation of encephalitis?
presents off colour and “not right”

inflammation of the brain

retinal haemorrhages (from shaking) broken ribs

congenital pyloric stenosis - vomits everytime they eat
volvulus
