Causes:
Adults/Children:
S. pneumoniae
N. meningtidis

Children (+):
H. flu

Neonates:
Group B streptococcus

PT/PTT
electrolytes, BUN, creatinine, glucose
blood cultures
Txt:
supportive
abx
dexamtehasone
chemoprophylaxis

less acute onset and progression
negative routine bacterial cultures
fever

N/V

nuchal rigidity
Eval:
CBC
BUN, electrolytes, creatinine, glucose, blood cultures, PT/PTT
LP
MRI/CT

Txt:
symptomatic
abx for risk groups or unclear cause
