Testicular Cancer

A

most testicular tumors occur between the ages of 18 to 35

practically all are malignant

Common in white males and rare in African, Mexican, and Asians

biopsy will confirm diagnosis

early detection is important

not a lot of men practice self examination

Symptoms of testicular cancer (genitals)

A

Jim has a painless lump or swelling on one of his testicles. He’s going through pain, discomfort or numbness and it doesnt have to necessary swell.

His testicles feel very heavy and there is a dull ache in the lower abdomen of his groin. His scrotum feels like there is a sudden build up in his scrotom.

Symptoms of testicular cancer (everywhere else)

A

Jim has lower back pain, shortness of breath, chest pains and bloody sputum because he’s in the later stages of testicular cancer.

he has blood clots from the swelling of his legs or shortness of breath. The doctor said for young to middle aged men developing a blood clot can be the first sign of testicular cancer

A

no way to prevent testicular cancer

regular self exams should begin at 13 through adulthood

testicular cancer has no early warning signs

if detected early and treated before metastasis, cure rate is almost 95%

A

hank has a collection of fluid in the scrotum so there’s swelling but its painless

A

Cryp Corey has failure of one or both of his testicles to drop . Scrotum looks underdeveloped and testing cannot be felt

A

E has an infection of the epididymis that has sudden pain. E’s scrotum appears enlarged, reddened and swollen-tender to touch.

usually associated with prostatitis or bacterial infection

Valarie has abnormal dilation of veins in the spermatic cord. Valarie feels discomfort and testicular heaviness

the veins are very sensitive to touch and he calls them bag of worms. Associated with infertility.

Have to palpate the prostate gland by inserting the index finger into the rectum.

move the finger counterclockwise to palpate the prostate

patient may feel the urge to urinate which is normal

Acute Prostatitis

A

Prostate is swollen, tender and firm and with that there’s inflammation caused by a bacterial infection.

requires antibiotic that often causes painful or difficult urination.

pain in the groin, pelvic area, or genitals and sometimes flu like symptoms

affects men of all ages but tends to be more common in men 50 or younger

Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy

A

Prostate is enlarged, smooth, firm and slightly elastic

median sulcus is not palpable

common in men older than 50

Common signs and symptoms of BPH include

A

Frequent or urge to urinate or nocturia

difficulty starting urination

weak urine stream or a stream that stops and starts

dribbling at the end of urination

inability to completely empty the bladder

A

Serum creatinine levels may suggest blockage from an enlarged prostate
