Describe the 4 stages of Piagets theory for kids thinking.
Stage 1: 0-2 yrs old, stage of sensory motor thinking, this age group lives in the present and does not think about the past or future, just the present. i.e. tell them what your doing while your doing it” This is the age group you pre-teach parents not the child.
Stage 2: 3-6 yr old, pre-operational they are fantasy orientated, they are imaginative, illogical, their thinking obeys no rules, you cannot reason with the preschooler. If they can think it, it can happen. They understand both past and future. Teach shortly before - either the morning of, or day of, or 2 hrs prior to. What do you teach them? teach them what you are going to do through play, book, dolls, equipment etc.
Stage 3: 7-11 yr old concrete operational (7/11). Rule oriented they live and die by the rules they cannot abstract. They think there is only one way to do things, which is the first way they have been shown. Teach days ahead, teach what your going to do, plus skills! Teach by using age appropiate reading and demonstration.
Stage 4: 12 > Formal Operational - can abstract ( make decisions) and think cause and affect, they are able to manage their own care. i.e. listening for bruie.
