Medical Machienes Flashcards
Spirometer
-an apparatus for measuring the volume of air inspired and expired by the lungs
-meausre ventilation, the movement of air into and out of the lungs
-identifies 2 types of abnormal ventilation patterns
Position emission tomography (PET)
-scan that uses a dye that has radioactive tracers, get absorbed by your organs and tissues
- the tracer will collect into areas of your body that have higher levels of metabolic or biochemical activity which can locate area of disease
Cell culture technology
-isolate cells from a person/animal, keep them alive in culture(skin, blood, bone marrow cells)
-allows us to understand how human cells work and the functioning of human organisms
-can be used to replicate or regenerate these cells
Measurand
physical quanity being measured by the instrument
-internal(blood pressure),surface(ECG)
Sensor
a device that converts measurand to electric signals
-should only respond to the form of energy in the measurand
-should be minimally invasive
Signal conditioning
-sensor output not directly couples to the display device
-amplifiaction,filtering
-averaging, digitizing, processing
Output display
-numerical, graphical, discrete, continuous
-human factors engineering guidelines
auxiliary elements
calibration and control and feedback
Constraints of biomedical measurement
-low magnitude of biological signals
-access constraint (invasive vs. non-invasive measurement)
-safety issues
-Stochastic physical quantity
Any measurement includes?
Signal and noise
Signal
ECG, blood pressure, temperature
Noise
External: 60Hz, radio frequency,magnetic
Internal : muscle noise, motion artifact
Signal filtering
can seperate noise from desired signal using their distinct property
-Seperate high frequency from low
Analog filters
have the property of removing unwanted frequencies from our signal
