A
- media takes significant interest in the rich often treating them as celebrities
- Nairn- gives the example of the royal family whose life is treated like soap opera Eg the crown

- “outnumbered” tv show shows them talking about education and speaking in the elaborated code

- presented as the problem, stigmatised
- “brassic” tv show shows w/c as lacking intelligence, deviant, foul lang, etc

- dehumanised, focuses on stats rather than individuals living in poverty stories
- Mckendrick et al- little exploration into causes of poverty
- used as entertainment eg. shameless shows them as deviant and ignores real lived experience of poverty

Yes- postmodernists- we are media saturated

This representation benefits the capitalist ideology as it reinforces a class divide and so the ruling class such as the monarchy are not questioned
W/C used as scapegoats hall- hide capitalist problems
