Selective attention
Our consciousness can only concentrate on 1 important thing from our experience. The attention is brought by our unconscious radar.
Cocktail Party effect
Our ability to concentrate on a a particular stimuli and filter out other stimuli.
How fast does our attention shift and what does it do?
Our attention shifts extremely frequently, and it causes a slight delay in our coping.
Inattentional Blindness
failing to see other visible objects when our attention is directed elsewhere.
Change Blindness
A form of inattentional blindness. Failing to notice that something has changed.
Seeing is believing and believing is seeing.
Our perceived world is our brain’s explanation of incoming sensory information.
Perceptual set
A mental predisposition to perceive one thing and not another. Expectations can cause us to perceive what we expect and not what we feel.
What causes perceptual sets?
Context, motivation, and emotion causing expectations.
Bottom-up processing
relies on external sensory information. —> Sensory stuff sees

influenced by our internal prior expectations. —> Brain sees
