What is a constraint?
A restriction imposed by higher. Dictactes an action (action) or Prohibits an action (inaction)
What is a specified task?
A task given by higher that you must accomplish.
What is an implied task?
A task that must be done to support a specified task.
What is an essential task?
A task that must be done to accomplish the mission. Uses doctrinal terms. The “what” of the 5Ws.
What are assumptions?
- Guesses or theories about the current situation, future events, and activities.
- Assumed true until verified when they become facts.
- Needed to continue planning.
What part of the 5Ws is the problem statement?
The “why.” The purpose of the mission.

What is the purpose of MA?
To better understand the situation and problem, identify what we must accomplish, when and where it must be done, and the purpose of the operation.

What is a CCIR used for?
To help commanders and staff maintain situational understanding, support decision points, manage information, support assessment.
What is a CCIR?
Elements of information required by the CDR to support his visualization and directly affect decision making.
Usually no more than 10. Can change with the OE.
What is the difference between an on order and a be prepared to mission?
A be prepared to mission is a mission assigned to a unit that might be executed. An on order mission is a mission to be executed at an unspecific time.
