Army Design Methodolgy Flashcards
What are the three components of the ADM process?
- Frame the OE (operational variables)
- Frame the Problem (understand root causes)
- Develop an Operational Approach (actions)
*Assessing and Reframing throughout
Planning is an art and a science, which of these is ADM?
The art. Still conceptual in nature.
What are the 10 elements of operational art?
CLOPTCREBD
Culmination Lines of Operation and Lines of Effort Operational Reach Phasing and Transition Tempo Center of Gravity Risk End State and Conditions Basing Decisive Points
What are end state and conditions?
Future conditions the commander wants to exist by clearly defining an end state. EF, FF, T, CC
What is a center of gravity?
A source of power that provides moral or physical strength, freedom of action, or a will to act.
What is a Decisive Point?
Place, event, factor, or function that when acted on allows the commander to gain a marked advantage over the enemy or contribute materially to achieving success.
What is a Decision Point?
A point in time and space when a commander has to make a decision to move forward with the mission.
What is a Line of Operation?
A LOO defines directional orientation of a force in time and space in relation to the enemy and links the force with its operations/objective.
What is a Line of Effort?
A LOE links multiple tasks using the logic of purpose to focus efforts towards establishing operational and strategic conditions.
What is Operational Reach?
The distance and duration a commander can employ his/her forces.
What is Basing?
A locality from which operations are projected or supported.
What is Tempo?
The relative speed and rhythm of military operations over time with respect to the enemy.
What is Phasing?
A planning and execution tool used to divide an operation in duration or activity.
What are Transitions?
Transitions mark a change of focus between phases or between the ongoing operations and execution of a branch or sequel. Conditions of phase must be met.
What is Culmination?
The point in time and space at which a force no longer possesses the capability to continue its current form of operations.
