What is IPB?
The systematic process of analyzing the mission variables of enemy, terrain, weather, and civil considerations in an area of interest to determine their effect on operations.

What is a HVT?
A high value target is an asset an enemy commander requires for the successful completion of the mission.
What is a HPT?
A high payoff target is a target whose loss to the enemy will significantly contribute to the success of the friendly course of action.

What is the Area of Operations?
The area of operations (AO) is defined by the joint force commander for land and maritime forces that should be large enough to accomplish their missions and protect their forces.
What is the Area of Influence?
An area of influence (AI) is a geographical area where a commander is directly capable of influencing operations by maneuver or fire support systems normally under the commander’s command or control.
What is the Area of Interest?
An area of interest (AOI) is that area of concern to the commander, including the area of influence, areas
adjacent thereto and extending into enemy territory. Includes areas occupied by enemy forces who could jeopardize the accomplishment of the mission.
