MCDU/FMGS (Auto Flight) Flashcards
What are the two modes of flight guidance?
Managed Guidance
Selected Guidance
What is the managed mode of flight guidance used for?
Long-term lateral, vertical and speed profiles as determined by the FMGS
What is the selected mode of flight guidance used for?
Temporary lateral, vertical and speed commands as selected with the FCU
Does Selected or managed guidance have priority?
Selected
What does ACTIVATE/CONFIRM APPR phase do if in managed speed?
Allows Auto Thrust to target predetermined speeds based on flap setting:
F0- Green Dot
F1- S Speed
F2- F Speed
F3- F Speed or Vapp
Full- Vapp
G/S mini is only available in managed speed
What happens if you forget to ACTIVATE/CONFIRM the APPR phase while in the descent phase?
Once you select managed speed (on approach for example) the airplane will accelerate to 250 kts below 10000 msl
What time of day would you have to switch to a new Nav Database?
901Z
Can you modify data in the Nav Database?
You may store some pilot created data like pilot waypoints
Where do you check the validity of the NAV database?
on the A/C Status page
What input does the FMGC normally use to determine its position?
a blend of IRS/GPS position
What is the Normal operational mode of the FMGS?
Dual Mode, with one FMGS as the Master and one as the Slave
How does autopilot selection influence the Master/Slave logic of the FMGS?
If a single autopilot is selected, the respective FMGS becomes the master. If Both or Neither autopilot is selected, FMGS 1 is the master
Why would you get an amber OFF SIDE FM CONTROL message on the ND?
An FMGS has failed and both NDs must be set to the same mode and range. (COM Procedure)
While in cruise with AP1 selected, what would happen if you selected AP2?
AP1 would disengage and AP2 would be engaged. you can only engage both autopilots after selecting APPR mode.
What is the difference between large and small font on the MCDU?
Small- Default, Computed, or unchangable data
Large- Pilot entered or Modifiable data
