SSR Failure In Flight
In flight: Recycle or switch to Alternative.
Interfacing agencies may not accept.
Endeavour to continue, If approved to continue, Mil Sup to be informed and CA4114. If also TCAS u/s, treat as an emergency.
AC to inform TC of any none transponder a/c
SSR failure prior to departure
Not approved. If unable to be fixed at current a/d, file as direct as possible to the nearest suitable a/d. TC OS to approve, taking traffic into account.
TCAS U/S
May operate for 10 days with U/S TCAS. If fails while a/b, notify adjacent ATSU. If TCAS is u/s and SSR fails, treat as emergency. Shall not depart with both u/s.
Nav light failure at night
If light required by the ANO:
Can not depart.
If already a/b, may continue if approved by ATC. Normally only when wholly within UK CAS.
If OCAS, land at nearest suitable a/d - which may be the original destination.
Mode S Identity
Direct recognition of the Aircraft Identification Feature on the situation display may be used to establish identification - subject to either:
1) Correlation of the AIF with the A/C entered on the flight plan displayed to the controller or on the FPS, or
2) Correlation of the AIF with a callsign directed in RT to the controller. Exercise caution of similar callsign, and if in any doubt use an alternative method.

Royal Flight definition
A/c movement specifically tasked to carry one or more members of the royal family afforded such status by the head of royal travel.
Other royal families, other reigning sovereigns, PMs, Heads of Commonwealth States, Heads of Foreign States, may also be afforded Royal Flight status by the CAA.
Night Duty Period / Exemption
Max Duty may be extended to 4 hours provided:
1. breaks are pro-rata
2. 0000-0600L
3. low workload and sporadic
4. Monitored to ensure applied appropriately
Not possible to transition to night - time working period from an enhanced relief position

Returns should not merge, except when SSR Code indicates Mode C is verified
