matrix systems Flashcards
whats a matrix?
a Temporary wall for class 2,3,4
What are the 3 types matrix systems?
- standard posterior matrix ( tofflemeyer, Automatrix)
- Sectional matrix systems (palodent, triodent, garrison…)
- anterior matrix systems
What is the goal of a good matrix system?
- Create a tight interproximal contact
- Seal cervical and proximal margins with no overhangs or flash
- Simple to use and give consistent results with minimal need for finishing.
- proper wedging
What lesions are wedges used for?
class 2,3,4
where should you insert the wedge?
lingual side
what is specail about the automatrix?
no retainer is needed to hold the band in place. It has a coil that is tightened by a wrench
What do sectional matrix systems use?
egg shaped band and tension rings
what sectional matriz system does lecom use?
palodent system.
Should the tension ring be facing the proximal box?
yes because thats where your building up the proximal wall
what does the non-stick coating (PTFE) do?
easier band removal
all sectional matrix systems make use of what?
a clasp- removing tool
what would having a clear matrix band benefit us in?
curing the composite.
how is the REEL matrix system different?
it has a reel like a fishing pole
most anterior matrix systems are plastic. What 2 are most commmon
celluloid matrix
mylar matrix
these are used in class 3, and 4 restoroations
