class 1 compossite filling and bonding fundamentals Flashcards
(23 cards)
Who developed the first system of bonding acrylic resin to dentin?
Dr. Oskar Haggar 1949
what did Dr. michael buonocore invent?
an acid etch technique ( 1955)
What did Dr. Rafael brown invent?
a thermoset resin complex used in composite resin
In dentistry, bonding of resin based materials to tooth structure is a result of four possible mechanisms which are….
mechanical, adsorption, diffusion , and a combination of the previous 3
What is the mechanical bonding part?
penetration of resin and formation of resin tags within the tooth surface
Whats the adsorption bonding part?
chemical bonding to the inorganic or organic components of tooth
whats the diffusion bonding part?
precipitation of substances on the tooth surface to which resin monomers can bond mechanically or chemically.
what % of etchant is phosphoric acid and what does etchant do to enamel?
37%, it makes micro pores increasing the strength of the bond
what kind of etchant does LECOM use?
beautibond by shofu, we use the 7th generation which is all in one system
what do desensitizer do?
they crosslink the tubular proteins causing them to plug and limit post operative sensitivity.
after the tooth is prep’d, should you dry it out like crazy?
no, just gentle air, be caregull not to desicate.
after gently dried, what do you do next?
etch with 37% phosphoric acid, both enamel and denitn for 30 seconds ( tooth will be frosty white)
If you decide to use a desnesitizer, at what point do you put it on?
after etching
after you etch whats next?
use a benda brush and apply primer/bonding agent and leave it for 10 second. light cure 10 sec
after applying the bonding agent, whats next?
place composite with increment fill with no thicker than 2mm at a time. Light cure 20 seconds each time. This reduces C factor
whats the C factor again?
ration of bonded surfaces to undbonded. Or free surfaces in a tooth preparation.
before you add compiste in increments to the buccal and lingual walls, where should you put some composite?
put a horizontal floor down.
T/F, with the 7th generation composite, you should dip your instrument into alcohol while adding occlusal anatomy
F, only do this step when etch step is seperate. the 7th generation includes the etch step.
after the desired anatomy is added to the unbonded composite what do you do?
cure it, and polish
which are better to use for acclusal anatomy? carbide or diamond burs?
carbide, diamond roughen up the surfaces.
what settings should you use for the super snap polishers?
low speed with gentle stream of water.
whats the advantage of applying a composite sealer?
it reduces microleakage and seals micro cracks.
how do you add the composite sealer?
etch the newly placed composite for 45 seconds, apply sealer and cure for 20 seconds.
